Monthly Favorites – March

HI FRIENDS! Long time, no talk (which is totally my fault). I have been going through some motivation & creativity struggles, but I’m working on getting back on track! Just please bear with me as I continue working out my own issues 🙂

ANYWAY… how the heck are ya?! It has been a while since I wrote a new post and I’ll have to admit it feels DAMN GOOD to be typing on my keyboard again. I think that that saying is true, “you don’t know what you have til it’s gone,” but in this case my blog was never gone, we just separated for a short period of time.

I thought I would experiment with something new on my blog, which is my monthly favorites. When I stopped and thought about it there are a handful of things that I have been using, wearing, listening to, or testing out this month that I have been a huge fan of, so I thought I would share!

Just so you can skip around depending on what you are interested in I will break down the categories that I am going to talk about here:

  • Skincare/Beauty
  • Hair
  • Music
  • Clothing
  • Miscellaneous

Skincare/Beauty

First up we have 1 skincare product and 3 beauty products.

A few weeks ago, I purchased the Glow Recipe Watermelon Pink Juice Moisturizer. I have been getting REALLY into skincare lately because my skin was acting up, so I decided to do some more research regarding ingredients and actually spend a little more to get products that do more good than harm to my skin.

Sidenote: I tried out Curology this past month but stay tuned for next Sunday’s post because I will go over my review of it and share my thoughts.

Anyway, I have been really loving this moisturizer. It is lightweight and sinks in to the skin very quickly. On the box, it suggests that people with dry skin use it as a serum before another moisturizer because of how lightweight it is. I used to identify my skin as dry, but now I would say it is normal/dry, so this moisturizer works just fine for me by itself. If you have oily skin, you may really like this because it is so lightweight and it won’t leave your skin feeling more oily or more greasy.

This product smells AMAZING and it gets me excited for summer and warm weather because it smells like watermelons. As for ingredients, this product contains hyaluronic acid and watermelon extract. The Hyaluronic Acid helps to hydrate the skin and make it plump, and the watermelon extract helps to soothe the skin and give it essential vitamins.

Lastly, this product gets an A++ for packaging. It comes in a beautiful baby pink glass jar and it is very sleek and minimalistic. It is a little pricey ($39 for 2 fl. oz. or $21 for .85 fl. oz.) but a good moisturizer if you are in the mood to splurge!

Next up is the IT cosmetics concealer.

I purchased this product in the beginning of the month and at first I wasn’t really sure how I felt about it. It is a different texture than any other product that I’ve used before. It is thick and a little goes a long way. It is very pigmented so you really don’t need a lot to cover what you’re trying to cover.

I like to use this concealer as a typical under-eye concealer, but I also like to use this all over my face on days where I don’t want to wear foundation but want to have an even complexion.

Tip: when using this product, I suggest using your finger as opposed to a beauty sponge or brush. I found that using my finger was the best way to get the most natural look and the best coverage. This is just my suggestion, try it out however you would like 🙂

I use the shade Light Buff (N) and it works really well for my skin tone. It evens out my skin, but adds a little bit of brightness. It is a little pricey, but a little goes a long way!

Next up is the Tartlette OG palette.

I have had this palette for quite some time and have definitely used the shit out of it, but recently it has been my go-to for my everyday looks and I have been super pleased with the results. I am always a fan of Tarte products in general, but especially their eyeshadow palettes.

This palette definitely gives you a cool-toned look but lately that has been my jam. Honestly, tarte palettes don’t really disappoint in my opinion so whatever one you choose to go with you should be good.

For my day to day looks, I just throw ‘supermom’ all over my lid to set my concealer and then put ‘wanderer’ and ‘force of nature’ in my crease and ‘multitasker’ on my outer corner and boom donezo (*insert Kristin Cavallari meme here).

Lately, I have been also finishing off the look with ‘fashionista’ as my liner instead of a gel or liquid.

Last skincare/beauty favorite of this month goes to…

My Mac 135 brush!

Okay, so a little story behind this brush…I originally wanted the Morphe dupe for this, which you can find here, but it was sold out for the LONGEST time and when Christmas rolled around my sweet brother got me this Mac brush instead. (btw this was not this past Christmas but the Christmas before).

To be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of this brush when I first used it so I stopped using it for a while, but this past month I started using it again and you guys I’m in LOVE.

It makes my bronzer look so beautifully blended and flawless. Because the bristles on this brush are synthetic hair it helps to create a very airbrushed look on the face and doesn’t deposit too much product.

Now, I’ve heard that the Morphe brush is a great alternative for this, so save your money and get that one, BUT if you feel like balling out, go for it.

Hair

For this section I have one thing and that is my Tangle Teezer hairbrush. So for the longest time I was using a wet brush and it worked okay, not bad, not great. I’ve always heard good things about the Tangle Teezer, so I thought I would give it a try and I have been LOVING it.

It doesn’t pull at my hair as much as the wet brush did. I still notice slight tugging, but nothing too extreme. I do wish that it didn’t look so much like a brush for a cat or a dog and actually had a handle but it gets the job done and that is all that matters.

Music

If you are a fan of Casey Holmes, like me, then you would know that sometimes she ends her monthly favorite videos with some songs that she is loving at the moment, and I love that idea, so I’m doing it, deal with it.

Currently some songs that I have been listening to on repeat this month are:

Clothing

I’m going to keep this section short because I only have 1 piece of clothing to share.

Now, before I tell you about this lovely item go on google, safari, chrome, or whatever other search engine you use, type in www.instagram.com/keeping_upwith_kendall (or click the link to the left 😉 ) and click that beautiful blue ‘follow’ button, so you can keep up with me and see more outfit inspo and get a lil sneak peek of future favorites..

Okay, now we are back. So the 1 piece of clothing that I have been wearing to death this past month are my black high-rise skinny distressed Levi’s.

I am obsessed with my Levi’s and they have quickly become the only jean brand that I wear, but the pair that I love so much and have been wearing so much this month are my 711 skinnies! I wear a size 26 and I love the single distressed knee and I have found that after numerous washes they still stay black.

I have found most of the Levi’s that I own from TJ Maxx or Marshalls, so I highly recommend checking out those stores before you go to a Macy’s or a Levi’s store. I recently got a pair of light wash Levi jeans from Marshalls for $19!!

Misc.

We are finally at the end! Last up, we have a miscellaneous item that I have been loving this month and couldn’t figure out a category to put it in.

Again, if you follow my instagram then you may have seen my post about this, but lately I have been using my diffuser and really loving it.

I got my diffuser for Christmas 2 years ago and used it a bunch during grad school, but since I’ve moved back in with my parents, I stored all my stuff from my apartment in the basement (thinking I wouldn’t be living at home that long, but I was wrong) and totally forgot that I had this until this past month.

I got my diffuser as gift (the one I linked here is from Amazon), but I believe it is from TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or Homegoods. All of those stores are a great place to look for an affordable diffuser. This is mine..

I got my essential oils from TJ Maxx or Marshalls (I’m not really sure, but they both carry them) and it might totally be in my head, but I actually feel more at ease when I diffuse certain oils. I enjoy diffusing oils when I am getting ready for work (preferably orange or some sort of concoction that promotes energy) and at night before bed (lavender or other calming oils).

THERE YOU HAVE IT.

My favorites for the month of March! Tune back in next week when I talk about my experience with Curology! If you liked this type of post, give it a like so I know and I will continue to do them monthly!

See ya Sunday!

I’ve been on the fence about getting the It Cosmetics concealer but I have been looking at it for a while. I’m at the point where I literally need to buy new concealer though so I might pick it up haha. Also your outfits are always super cute! I also had no idea TJ Maxx sold essential oils! I might start getting them there to save $$$! I also feel more at ease when I diffuse certain oils.
